By CATHY DUNKLEY

First Independent Pictures has acquired U.S. distribution rights to Park Entertainment's family comedy "Bob the Butler" and chopsocky adventure pic "The Purifiers."

Directed by Gary Sinyor, "Butler" stars Tom Green, Brooke Shields and Simon Callow. Written by Steven Manners and Jane Walker Wood, pic is the story of an accident-prone man who's unable to hold a job. After he enrolls in butler school to help refine his inept ways, he winds up working for a single mom, which leads to one catastrophe after another.

"Purifiers," directed by Richard Jobson, stars Dominic Monaghan, Kevin McKidd, Rachel Grant, Amber Sainsbury and Gordon Alexander. Pic was produced by Chris Atkins, Bill Kenwright and Richard Jobson. Story concerns a gang of young skilled practitioners of taekwondo who must defend themselves against the armies of the night.

Park will handle sales for the two titles to international buyers at the AFM.

Launched in February, First Independent is headed by president Gary Rubin. Shingle is in release with the Christian Slater starrer "Pursued," co-starring Michael Clarke Duncan and Estella Warren, and "Mail Order Wife," starring Eugenia Yuan, Adrian Martinez and Andrew Gurland.
